Crossing Our Wake: The Final Chapter of Now or Never

Now or Never hangs the gold burgee – and with that, we officially complete America’s Great Loop.

As we wound our way through the heart of America, this journey became far more than just a long boat trip. It was a crash course in geography and history that no classroom could match. It became a testament to our love of adventure, a test of endurance, and a deeply personal chapter of growth and reflection. Most of all, it brought us incredible friendships with Loopers from all corners of the globe.

Our incredible Great Loop Journey

The final leg of this journey was an emotional one, a blend of euphoria, disbelief, and bittersweet reflection. Two quiet days at Buzzard Rock Marina before heading to our celebration gave us time to process the last 52 months: nearly 12,000 miles, 244 ports, and a route that circled the eastern third of the America.

We’ve been chasing the “dream of gold” since leaving our home port in June 2021. Now, as it was finally within reach, the realization hit: this incredible chapter of our lives was coming to a close. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotion – joy, nostalgia, gratitude – and it’s been a challenge to put it all into words.

Our final cruise to Green Turtle Bay in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, was just 8.5 miles. Short in distance but long in significance.

We were touched when the “Live the Dash” crew, The Bohonek Family, came in from Minnesota to celebrate with us.

The gang was back together as they surprised us that last morning bringing breakfast aboard Now or Never.  We said temporary goodbyes and set off for a celebration!

As we cruised those last few miles, memories flooded in – of our first day, of unknown waters, and jitters for the adventure ahead, now were in our rear view.

Suddenly, a familiar sight approached: our homeport crew from Jeffersonville, Indiana – came to escort us in, just as they had done on day one. A full circle moment. The love and support were overwhelming.

With our honorary escort behind us, we entered Green Turtle Bay Harbor. The Captain laid on the horn, and we were met by cheers at the fuel dock. Friends and family from three states, along with fellow Loopers we’d traveled with in recent months, were there to welcome us “home.”

A champagne toast celebration followed.

Thankful for our crew who came to celebrate with us!

There were hugs, tears, laughter, and shared stories – and a touching moment of remembrance for our beloved third crew member, Remy, who earned the gold alongside us in spirit.

We gathered that evening with six from our home marina, Maria, Jeff, Doug, Kelli, Jeff, and Kelli as well as our kids Ryan and Joe, and the Bohonek Family, Emily, Jordan, Lauren and Reed for a celebratory dinner at Patti’s Settlement – complete with their famous 2” pork chops and flower pot bread. How blessed are we that friends and family would join us for the momentous occasion in remote western Kentucky.

After three days of celebration, stories, and fun, we took one final night to ourselves. Just the two of us. Time to breathe. To reflect. To hold space for everything this journey has meant.

Gold Loop Celebrations! Blessed by amazing friends and family

Now or Never became more than just a name etched on the hull – it became our philosophy. Our compass. Our fuel. Our reason. It’s exactly what dreams demand: courage in the face of comfort, and action in the place of someday.

This journey wasn’t about checking off destinations on a map. It was about choosing to live the story we kept promising ourselves we’d get to one day. Life doesn’t wait. You either go, or you watch the moment pass you by. That day came the moment we stepped aboard, cast off the lines, and left safe harbor behind.

And what a story it became.

It tested us. It taught us.
It connected us to history, to nature, to each other, and to a vibrant, generous community of Loopers who became incredible friends. Every bend in the river, every sunrise at anchor, every shared dockside toast reminded us: this was more than a boat trip. It was transformation.

As we crossed our wake, one truth was crystal clear:
We hadn’t just completed a loop.
We had lived an extraordinary story.

And we’re still writing it!

And we are forever grateful – to those who cheered us on, cruised beside us, or simply followed from afar. You were part of this journey too.

We’ll be sharing more soon the stats, the highlights, the unforgettable moments – but for now, from the crew of Now or Never:
Thank you.

Thank you for believing in the dream.
Thank you for coming along for the ride..

It’s been one hell of an adventure – every mile, every moment, etched into memory to last a lifetime.
