The Journey

The Great Loop is a 6000+ mile boat trip circumnavigating the eastern United States, and part of Canada. The route includes the inland rivers, the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, the New York State Canals, the Canadian Canals, and the Great Lakes. We will visit a minimum of twenty U.S. states and Canadian provinces and possibly the Bahama’s and more on side trips.

Our journey begins from Jeffersonville, IN, across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY.

Most complete the loop in about a year, we hope to be able to spend a couple of years enjoying America by water. We will have the support of America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association (AGLCA) which we have been a members for several years. They offer a great array of resources, support, planned and unplanned camaraderie, as well as Harbor Hosts in most areas we will be cruising. About 500 boats a year are in progress on the loop and approximately 150 boats complete the loop each year.

The Ohio River, Cumberland River and upper part of the Tennessee are considered side trips of the official loop – map above. We will traverse these rivers as side trips our first summer / fall aboard Now or Never.

We will begin our journey from our homeport of Jeffersonville, Indiana and head down the Ohio River to the Cumberland and turn left. The rest you can follow on this blog!
